| Wilderness Medical courses are taught by Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA). These courses are considered the most complete medical training for individuals working in the outdoors. WMA combines a curriculum that has been refined by 17 years of practical experience and expertise. All the course instructors have substantial experience in emergency medicine, backcountry travel, and teaching. Wilderness First Responder
This 8 day, 72 hour WMA course is designed to provide you with a high degree of backcountry medical competence. Full attendance is required, along with a passing grade on final tests and skills assessments for you to receive your certification. You should expect to be occupied with training or studying all day, every day, including one night and several day rescue simulation. Much of your class time will be spent outdoors. There is no training pre-requisite for the Wilderness First Responder course. Just bring a willingness to learn, a lot of energy, and a love for the outdoors.
This certification is required for all Lead Instructors although it is recommended that everyone obtain this certification.

Wilderness First Responder Re-certification Challenge Course
This three-day (24 hour) course is a recertification course open to graduates of ALL wilderness medical training courses of 64 hours or longer with a current certification. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive Wilderness Medical Associates WFR, Anaphylaxis and BLS-level CPR certifications. WMA WEMT graduates with a current EMT-B or Paramedic certificate may also recertify the wilderness portion of their WEMT.
When does your certification run out? You need to recertify every 3 years and it is recommended that you take the full course every 6 years

Wilderness First Aid
This 2 day, 16 hour course is a great way to sample the concepts of Wilderness Medicine in a short, time-efficient course. You will walk away with an understanding of the importance of patient assessment, and some of the emergencies that can arise in the wilderness environment. Full attendance is required, along with a passing grade on final tests and skills assessments for you to receive your certification. CPR not included.
This WMA certification is the minimum required for an Assistant Instructor Position.
