| Each year, individuals, corporations and foundations provide approximately half of the income that supports Thompson Islands youth programming. It is only because of their generosity and their belief in our mission that we can offer the following three core experiential learning opportunities to Bostons youth: Outward Bound Choices
A program in tandem with the Boston Public Schools, bringing 700 to 800 students per year to Thompson Island for five-day character-building wilderness expeditions.
- 78 percent are from low-income families
- All student attendance is highly subsidized (schools and/or families co-pay 7 percent of cost)
Summer Expeditions
10, 12 and 22-day Outward Bound expeditions challenging boys and girls ages 12 to 17 to thrive while hiking, sailing, sea kayaking, canoeing, climbing and camping.
- Groups comprised of students from the city, suburbs and beyond
- 30 to 35 percent of students receive full or partial scholarships
