282 Runners Complete 8th Annual Thompson Island 4K Trail Run
In its 8th year, Thompson Island Outward Bound's 4k Trail Run continues to be the most unique run in Boston, as racers go through the 204 acres of rolling hills, forests, meadows, salt marshes and beaches along the trails of Thompson Island. The event began with a 30-minute ferry ride through Boston Harbor to Thompson Island and ended with a cookout celebration and awards ceremony.
Honorary Race Chair Bill Rodgers, the legendary four-time winner of the Boston and New York Marathons, started the runners along the 2.5 mile route. Taking a strong lead for the men was the first place winner, Aaron Price, shortly followed by Ian Nurse and Joshua Gordon ending in 2nd and 3rd place. For the women, Beth Coughlin ended in first place followed by Renee Knapp and Elaine Conchola in 2nd and 3rd place.
Each year Thompson Island's trail run directly supports its youth programs. Annually more than 5,000 middle school students from greater Boston participate in challenging education programs that build self-confidence, leadership skills, and a greater sense of community. Thompson Island would like the thank all of their leading sponsors who helped to raise money for the event. Sponsors include Commodore Builders, Harpoon Brewery, Figi Water, Bear Naked Granola, Sebastians, First Impressions, Nai Global, Dyer Brown Architects and Jon Fischer Photography.
