Thursday, September 15, 2011 – 728 runners competed in the 11th Annual Thompson Island 4K Trail Run. The event featured both competitive and recreational runners. As some runners jogged the course to warm up and spent some time stretching, others enjoyed playing volleyball, ladderball and baggo while the DJ pumped out music.

The race began with the National Anthem and once the gun went off, 728 pairs of legs sprung into action. The 4K cross-country style race had a new course this year and challenged the runners to the end with two final hills.

The first runner completed the race at a breathtaking 13:57. The first hundred or so runners pushed hard in the hopes of winning the Corporate Team Challenge. Other runners sprinted in the last hundred yards neck-in-neck with a colleague. And some crossed the finish line with big smiles, content to have completed the race.

Everyone present enjoyed the party atmosphere with great music playing, a delicious BBQ dinner, and plentiful Harpoon beer. Awards were given out by Marathon Legend Bill Rodgers for the Top Female and Male Runners, as well as the 1st and 2nd Corporate Teams. As the sun set, tired but euphoric runners boarded Boston Harbor Cruise ferries to be transported back to the mainland.

Thompson Island Outward Bound thanks you for your support and participation! We hope to see you back on the island for the 2012 4K Trail Run!

2011 All Times

In its 11th year, Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center’s 4k Trail Run continues to be the most unique run in Boston, as racers traverse the 204 acres of rolling hills, forests, meadows, salt marshes and beaches along the trails of Thompson Island. The event begins with a ferry ride through Boston Harbor to Thompson Island and ends with a cookout celebration with Harpoon Beer. We apologize, but this is not a family event and all participants/attendees must be 21 years or older. Your registration fee includes ferry transportation to and from Thompson Island, race t-shirt, dinner and drinks.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Run, walk, or jog for Boston’s urban youth.

Each year the trail run helps bring 6,500 young people from greater Boston to Thompson Island to participate in challenging environmental education programs that build self-confidence, leadership and teamwork skills, and improve students’ academic success.

You can increase your support by asking friends, family or colleagues to make a donation on behalf of your run. You can set-up a fundraising page using Firstgiving.com. Also, consider asking your company to match your registration fee – many companies in Boston have matching gift programs.

CORPORATE TEAM CHALLENGE

Do you have a competitive work place? Here is your chance to show the rest of Boston that your team is the best in town. To join the Corporate Team Challenge you must have a minimum of 10 runners representing your company, organization or club.

Basic team entry is $500 for 10 runners, and $50 per additional runner. To receive your company’s logo on the race t-shirts and website, entry is $1,000 for 10 runners. Basic team fees can be sponsored by a company or paid individually.
